Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has been honored with a Glassdoor Employees' Choice Award, recognizing the Best Places to Work in 2025. This is the sixth recognition the Laboratory has earned in Glassdoor's award program since its inception in 2009.

Now in its 17th year, the Employees' Choice Award is based solely on the input of employees, who elect to provide anonymous feedback by completing a company review about their job, work environment and employer on Glassdoor, the worldwide leader on insights about jobs and companies.

LLNL comprises a world-class workforce of nearly 9,000 of the best and brightest scientists, engineers, business professionals, innovators, skilled tradespeople, technical staff and more, many of whom are drawn to the Laboratory for its defining responsibility of ensuring national security and the safety and effectiveness of the nation's stockpile.

"This achievement is a testament to the dedication and excellence of our world-class workforce," said LLNL Director Kim Budil. "Our people are at the heart of our mission, driving impactful innovations that enhance national security and technological advancement. At LLNL we value passion for mission, innovation, excellence and making an impact, enabling our employees to find meaning and purpose in their work. This recognition underscores our commitment to cultivating a workplace where every individual can contribute to our vital mission and grow professionally."

This is the sixth time the Laboratory has ranked on Glassdoor's top 100 "Best Places to Work - U.S. Large." This year, LLNL ranked 79 out of 100. Glassdoor's average company rating is a 3.7 on a 5-point scale; LLNL received a company rating of 4.1 during the review period and maintains a 4.3 cumulative rating. Other accolades include LLNL being the No. 1 government/government contractor employer and the No. 2 laboratory employer. LLNL also is No. 20 on the list of large employers in the Bay Area.

LLNL's Chief Human Resources Officer Larry Durham said the Laboratory is committed to providing a thriving workplace environment for employees.

"Receiving a place on the '2025 Best Places to Work' list affirms that the Lab's mission remains of critical national importance, as we aspire to develop and retain employees who take pride in carrying out our vital pursuits with passion and innovation," Durham said. "We aim to cultivate a workforce that finds meaning in maintaining a culture of collaborative excellence and finds its calling in vital contributions to the furthering of national security and technological advancement."

"The 'Best Places to Work' award is more than just recognition - it's a trusted guide for job seekers striving to find not only a great workplace but also a better worklife," said Christian Sutherland-Wong, chief executive officer at Glassdoor. "By showcasing companies where employees truly thrive, this award empowers professionals to choose employers that align with their values and priorities. It also highlights the critical role of transparency and feedback in shaping a future where work supports a fulfilling life."

On Glassdoor, current and former employees voluntarily and anonymously share insights and opinions about their work environments by sharing a company review, designed to capture a genuine and authentic inside look at what a specific job may be like at a particular company. When sharing a company review on Glassdoor, employees are asked to rate their satisfaction with the company overall, and key workplace factors like career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, senior management and work-life balance. In addition, employees are asked to describe the best reasons to work at their companies as well as any downsides. To date, there are more than 1,900 reviews on LLNL's Glassdoor page.

For many employees, LLNL is an excellent choice for science and technology innovation. It allows them to work with world-class experts in their fields while supporting U.S. national security.

"There is a lot of challenging work and difficult projects to work on," one LLNL employee said in their Glassdoor review. "The atmosphere is encouraging to learn and make mistakes in order to improve for the future. Ideas are openly discussed and welcomed, and everyone is included in the conversation."

The Laboratory workforce continues to grow. Since the beginning of 2024, LLNL has hired nearly 1,400 employees, and there are currently more than 130 jobs posted on the LLNL careers site in a variety of fields.
