A man has been charged and a loaded handgun and drugs have been seized – after the pursuit of an alleged stolen car at Georges Hall this morning.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle for a random breath test on the Hume Highway, Villawood, about 4.05am today (Friday 22 November 2024) when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed.
When the vehicle allegedly drove away, a pursuit was initiated by officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command.
It continued to Henry Lawson Drive, Georges Hall, where the sedan hit a parked car and the driver was arrested.
Police will allege when the car was searched, a loaded handgun and drugs were found. They've been seized for further examination.
The driver was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.
After being released from hospital, the man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with 13 offences:
- police pursuit not stop – drive dangerously (2nd+ offence),
- drive whilst disqualified (2nd+ offence),
- possess loaded firearm in public place,
- acquire firearm subject to firearms prohibition order,
- acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order,
- resist arrest,
- not keep firearm safely – pistol,
- supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity
- supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm part,
- drive conveyance taken without consent of owner,
- display false plates,
- recklessly deal with proceeds of crime and
- refuse to submit to taking of blood sample.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 23 November 2024).
