Local Action Boosts Landscape Resilience, Backs Nature

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government's investment in our Natural Resource Management (NRM) groups through our 2024-25 Budget is supporting the healthy soils, farmland, rivers and other natural resources that underpin Tasmania's world-class agricultural sector.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said the Tasmania Government's approach to natural resource management brings together our farmers, local communities, peak bodies and conservation groups to make a practical difference on the ground.

"The Government has committed an additional $2.4 million, a total of $544,000 a year over two years to each of our NRM groups – NRM South, NRM North and Cradle Coast NRM," Minister Howlett said.

"This will enable these groups to continue to deliver their important on-the-ground programs which includes supporting significant wetlands, cultural burning training from Tasmanian Aboriginal people and building drought resilience.

"Landcare Tasmania has played an important role in improving landscapes across the State and empowering people to care for our land and water resources for more than 30 years.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Government has committed more than $1.86 million over three years to continue to support Landcare Tasmania's programs and initiatives.

Additional funding includes:

"The Tasmanian Government is getting on with the job of land management to ensure we make a difference on the ground and I look forward to continuing to work with Landcare and our NRM organisations," Minister Howlett said.
