Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center will begin human trials for a COVID-19 vaccine in the upcoming weeks, and the screening process has already begun for people who want to participate.
"We are excited about this vaccine and think it has the possibility to decrease the risk of infection from COVID-19," says Robert Frenck, MD, who will lead the study. Frenck is a professor of pediatrics at the UC College of Medicine and is medical director for the Division of Infectious Diseases and director of the Vaccine Research Center at Cincinnati Children's.

Carl Fichtenbaum, MD, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the UC College of Medicine and a UC Health physician, applauded the efforts and expertise of his colleagues.
"It's a very cool study design that allows for flexibility," he says. "Cincinnati Children's is a powerhouse in vaccine development, going back to the days of Albert Sabin and the development of the polio vaccine."
