Local Decision Making To Bring More Work To Numbulwar

NT Government

The Lawler Labor Government is committed to supporting the Numbulwar community to improve locally-led solutions to boost employment and economic opportunities, now and for future generations.

The first Local Decision Making Agreement (LDM) for Numbulwar community was signed last week, with a focus on community aspirations to improve access to work for locals as part of the Numburindi people's vision for a safe, cohesive and prosperous community.

This is the 16th LDM signed across the Territory, which comes after Numbulwar residents established the Numburindi Development Aboriginal Corporation (NDAC) in 2021 to develop a representative local organisation to achieve community aspirations for a thriving future.

The priorities and actions towards this future are outlined in NDAC's Business Plan, which provided the basis for NDAC's discussions with the NT Government and partners around how they could support increased cultural governance and social wellbeing, community development, economic enterprise, and local jobs for local people in Numbulwar.

The NDAC Local Decision Making Agreement outlines NT Government commitments for:

1. providing sub-contracting to the Remote Housing Maintenance Service contract in Numbulwar;

2. working with NDAC to form and implement a workforce development plan relevant to its organisational vision and need;

3. collaborating with NDAC on the potential implementation of pre-employment programs at Numbulwar School;

4. identifying areas of opportunity to increase NDAC involvement in current and upcoming contracts and programs funded by partner organisations delivered in Numbulwar;

The Territory Labor Government has signed 17 LDMs across the Territory, with more to come to support remote communities in the ways they want and need for safe and sustainable communities.
