A new roundabout, Give Way signage, bus stops and a pedestrian refuge were all approved during Tuesday's (May 25) Ordinary Meeting of Council as part of a suite of local traffic initiatives.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said these improvements will boost safety, as well as improve travel times and access to public transport.
"Council is continually looking at ways we can improve traffic flow, safety and reduce the need for cars on our roads, and these initiatives do just that," Mayor Byrne said.
"These upgrades will mean safer roads to navigate through, and better walkability and access to public transport.
"I'm proud of the work this Council is doing to build for the future and I am pleased we can undertake these much needed upgrades," Mayor Byrne added.
The improvements that were approved in Tuesday's Meeting include:
- The installation of a Give Way sign with associated line marking in Europa Street, Box Hill at the intersection of Ceres Way and Luminous Way, as well as 10 metres of BB line marking in Avior Street and Luminous Way;
- Installation of a single lane circulating roundabout at the intersection of Fairway Drive and Stone Mason Drive, in Norwest/Kellyville;
- Installation of the raised crossing and speed hump at the intersection of Guragura Street and Darani Avenue in Kellyville;
- Installation of a pedestrian refuge island at Arnold Avenue, Kellyville, between Butler Avenue and McCausland Place, also in Kellyville; and
- Installation of bus stops in the Gables at Valletta Drive (on the eastern side of road, south of Cavalo Way and adjacent to the public reserve) and Bunyarra Parade (on the northern side of the road, east of Valetta Drive and adjacent to the public reserve).
Adding to this, temporary changes to parking restrictions near the netball courts at Wellgate Avenue, North Kellyville over the course of the Junior State Titles netball event and the Traffic Management Plan to help with the flow of traffic entering and exiting Castle Hill Showground for the popular Chemical Cleanout event were both adopted on the night.
