Northern Territory Police Search and Rescue located 2 adult males yesterday afternoon after initiating search operations on Wednesday evening.
The two males, departed Wurrumiyanga boat ramp on Tuesday morning, with water and extra fuel in a 3.5m dinghy to fish the lower end of Melville Island/Apsley Strait. Around 7:45pm Wednesday, police received reports that the fishing party of 2, were overdue.
Search and Rescue launched the Wurrumiyanga police vessel and the Airwing which resulted in the successful locating of the 2 males.
The men were dehydrated, but otherwise in good health and received food and water upon rescue.
They have since been transported to Wurrumiyanga health clinic for assessment.
Sergeant Anthony Clarke said "This is a fantastic result. Police are happy we could get the men home safely.
"This is a timely reminder that whenever you're out on Territory waterways, you always have to tell someone where you are going, have a sea worthy vessel and ensure you have all the proper safety equipment including a registered EPIRB"
