Longreach is going LIVE for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games at a special celebration site to be activated in the heart of Longreach.

The site activation is part of statewide celebrations where Queenslanders will gather for special events backing our Aussie athletes and marking our own '8-Years-To-Go' milestone as hosts of the 2032 Games.

Olympics and Paralympics LIVE events will ignite the Olympic spirit from the Gold Coast to Cairns and west to Longreach during Paris 2024.

Edkins Park in Longreach will be the hub for Queenslanders in the Central West to enjoy free broadcast coverage on 27 – 28 July for the Olympic Games, and then 30 August – 1 September for the Paralympics.

Additional LIVE sites will be activated across the state throughout the Games including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.

The LIVE sites will feature Nine Network big-screen Games telecasts as well as special events backing local athletes and inspiring future Olympians and Paralympians, including those who may compete on home soil in 2032.

LIVE site activities in Longreach are being supported by the Queensland Government and Longreach Regional Council.

Paris 2024 broadcasts go LIVE on various dates at locations across Queensland from 27 July to 12 August (AEST) for the Olympic Games and 29 August to 9 September (AEST) for the Paralympic Games.

As stated by Minister for State Development and Infrastructure Grace Grace:

"The lighting of the Olympic and Paralympic flames in Paris will ignite the Games spirit right here in Queensland as we count down to our 2032 Games.

"Olympics and Paralympics LIVE sites will be the perfect place for our Queensland communities to get together and show their support for our inspirational athletes.

"Our LIVE sites will activate just days after we celebrate our own milestone of 8-Years-To-Go until the start of our Games on 23 July 2032.

"Longreach locals will be able to celebrate at a special LIVE site.

"All through Paris 2024, Queenslanders will be sharing the special excitement that goes with being a future Games host."

As stated by Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee President Andrew Liveris:

"Queenslanders will be right behind their Olympic and Paralympic teams as they go for gold in Paris and it's fantastic that so many local communities will be able to share in the excitement as part of Olympics and Paralympics LIVE sites. "The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be shared across Queensland and these LIVE sites are just a taste of what's in store in the years ahead, as we celebrate sport together. "I congratulate all involved in bringing the Paris 2024 Games to life, from Cairns to Coolangatta."

As stated by Mayor of Longreach Regional Council, Tony Rayner:

"We are thrilled to bring the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Longreach. Our community is ready to support our Aussie athletes and celebrate this incredible milestone as we look forward to hosting in 2032.

"Longreach is proud to be part of the statewide celebrations, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Edkins Park for the Olympic and Paralympic broadcasts. It's a great way to link our community with others across the state and celebrate our athletes' achievements.

"The LIVE events in Longreach will not only showcase the talent of our Australian athletes but also highlight the spirit of our community as we cheer them on from the heart of Queensland."

As stated by Paris 2024 Olympic athlete Matt Denny from Allora in the Southern Downs (Matt will compete in the Discus event he was previously selected for both Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020):

"I grew up a country kid and you often feel the distance can disconnect you. Having live sites around Queensland will go a long way for all the local communities to catch up and get behind the Teams in Paris, be a part of the action and give our kids a solid dose of inspiration!"

As stated by Australian Paralympic Team co-captain Curtis McGrath:

"It's fantastic to know that our friends, families and fans will have the opportunity to cheer on the Australian Paralympic Team at Paralympics LIVE events around Queensland.

"I encourage everyone to get out to a Paralympics LIVE event or host a watch party to support our team as we compete in Paris".
