Emergency Services were contacted by a lost bush walker in the early evening of 26 April 2021. A 48-year-old Wynyard man alerted police by mobile phone when he became lost near Mt Giekie in failing light in the early evening on Monday.
The man was experienced and well prepared, even though he was not expecting an overnight walk. The male had adequate wet weather clothing, working and charged mobile phone, map and compass and an EPIRB.
The male was able to extricate himself after contact with police and was picked up by officers in the early hours off Tuesday morning on the Lake Plimsoll Road.
Mount Giekie is approximately 8km north of Queenstown.
