  • Lotterywest has awarded the City of Swan $1 million towards the new Midvale Skate Park.
  • The Lotterywest grant joins an $850,000 contribution from the City.
  • Construction of the skate park is anticipated to commence in the second half of 2020.

Minister for Police and Road Safety, the Hon Michelle Roberts MLA, has officially presented a $1m Lotterywest grant to the City of Swan for the new Midvale Skate Park.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey accepted the grant certificate today at an event on site, attended by Midland/Guildford Ward Councillors Claire Scanlan and Rashelle Predovnik and key members of the community.

The City has worked closely with the community on the concept and design for the new recreation space, which was conceived in response to community desire for a local skate park in the Midland area.

Prior to receiving the Lotterywest grant, the City had allocated $850,000 to build the skate park, including obstacles and terrain determined through community consultation.

The $1m grant has enabled the City to deliver additional features including a pump track and skate bowl.

As stated by City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey

"Our newest youth and recreation space will be located outside the front of Swan Active Midland, creating a vibrant precinct for active young people.

"Thanks to Lotterywest, we can deliver on the community's vision for a high quality skate park and pump track."

As stated by Midland/Guildford Ward Councillor Rashelle Predovnik

"We are grateful to our community for their active engagement with the process of designing the new Midvale Skate Park.

"Our community is made up of passionate people who are dedicated to providing our youth with the facilities they need, and we are delighted to deliver on what they've asked for."

As stated by Hon Michelle Roberts MLA

"This will provide a brilliant facility close to home for local youth. We need all kinds of opportunities for young people to make friends and enjoy themselves.

"Whilst facilities for playing team sports like football and cricket are essential, so too are spaces for casual recreation and exercise.

"I'm delighted as the local MP to be able to present the City of Swan with a Lotteries grant of $1 million towards a skate park that I'm sure will be extremely popular with local youths and families."
