Love to Go Overseas: Aussie Family Bags $1M Windfall

A South Australian family's stroke of luck, propelled by a mother's superstition about an itchy palm, has led them to a $1 million windfall in the recent Weekday Windfall lottery draw.

The Newton family residents held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Weekday Windfall, draw 4410 on Monday 1 July 2024. Each entry scored $1 million.

“Thank you! There are four of us. We’re a family syndicate,” one of the winning family members explained a lotto official when they called to confirm the incredible news.

“It’s a funny story. I was cleaning my house the other day and I had the itchiest palm. I told Mum about it later and she said, ‘That means money! You should put a lotto ticket on!’.

“Then she said, ‘I’ll put in half’. Of course, my brother and sister didn’t want to miss out, so they chipped in too.

“I used my usual numbers. I’ve been using them for over 40 years!

“Oh gosh. I’m starting to cry! I’ve been crying all day. This is good karma coming back to us.

“I can’t believe it. I’m carrying this ticket in my purse that’s worth a million dollars. I’m terrified I’ll lose it.

“I joke so much that my family doesn’t believe me. I said, ‘I sent you the bloody ticket, it says $1 million!’, but they still want to see it in person.”

When asked how she planned to use her portion of the prize, the gleeful woman shared she had already started dreaming of warmer whereabouts.

“Well, I would love to go overseas. I have a couple of places on my bucket list!” she said.

“I think a girls’ trip could definitely be on the cards!”

The family’s winning entry was purchased at Metro Newsagency Newton, Shop 26 Newton Shopping Centre, 299 Montacute Road, Newton.

Metro Newsagency Newton owner Chuong Nguyen said he was thrilled to hear his outlet had sold a winning ticket.

“We are honoured to be an outlet that has sold a division one winning ticket. It feels even better as we just marked the seven-year anniversary of our shop opening so it felt like a special reward!” he said.

“We will be printing out the division one prize winner banner to let everyone know the exciting news.

“It’s a great community here and I’m sure our customers will be very happy for us and the lucky ticketholder.

“Congratulations to our fortunate customer and we wish you all the best with your prize.”

Meanwhile, a second South Australian player has come forward as their $1 million win in the same draw.

However, how the winner plans to spend their windfall will forever be a mystery as they have chosen to remain completely anonymous and celebrate in private.

Their entry was purchased from Woodville North Deli, 171C Hanson Road, Woodville North.

Woodville North Deli owner Tam Truong said she and the team were over the moon to have sold another winning entry.

“It’s been a tough couple of months so I’m extremely happy for the winner!” she said.

“The last time we sold a division one winning entry was more than ten years ago.

“We’re celebrating in-store and letting all our customers know the good news. We’re very thankful for their ongoing support.

“We wish our winner a happy and successful journey ahead!”

The winning numbers in Weekday Windfall draw 4410 on Monday 1 July 2024 were 13, 7, 15, 29, 5, and 11, while the supplementary numbers were 20 and 38.

Across Australia, there were four division one winning entries in Weekday Windfall draw 4410 – two in South Australia and one each in Victoria and Queensland.
