Lucky escape after highway crash, SA

A driver was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after a car and truck collided on the Augusta Highway near Warnertown this morning, according to SA Police.

The collision occurred at 8am on Thursday 22 December at the intersection of the Augusta Highway and the Wilkins Highway, near Warnertown, roughly 15 km south of Port Pirie.

Police, ambulance and rescue crews rushed to the scene of the crash after reports the car went under the truck.

The male driver of the car, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Port Pirie Hospital by ambulance. His condition is not life-threatening.

The truck driver was not injured.

The highways were closed or had traffic restrictions in place while emergency services worked to clear the scene. The roads were reopened about 9.15am.

Police are investigating the crash and urge all road users to take extra care on the roads during the festive period. There is more traffic on the roads as people take advantage of the long weekend and holiday period.
