Luxembourg Backs UNDP to Address Development Challenges

New York - The Government of Luxembourg has contributed EUR 3 million to UNDP, of which EUR 1.6 million is for regular (core) resources and EUR 1.4 million supports UNDP's thematic priorities on Poverty Eradication, Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment, Nature, Climate & Energy, and Governance & Crisis Response through the thematic Funding Windows. This contribution is a portion of a total of EUR 6 million pledged for 2024, in accordance with the Strategic Partnership Framework between Luxembourg and UNDP, and is a testament to Luxembourg's trust in UNDP's mission.

Luxembourg's contribution will be instrumental in advancing UNDP's mission towards uplifting the world's least developed countries, eradicating poverty, promoting gender equality, combating climate change and fortifying resilience to crises. The support will help UNDP to accompany countries in their pathways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and respond to emergencies and shocks with agility and speed. Luxembourg's commitment to flexible, multi-year funding enables coordinated, flexible, and rapid responses to development needs and emergencies worldwide, and demonstrates commitment to implementation of the UN Secretary General's Funding Compact.

Core resources help strengthen UNDP's oversight and accountability functions and ensure the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively and efficiently while following the highest standards of transparency. UNDP is consistently rated among the most transparent international organizations.

As we prepare for the Summit of the Future in September, UNDP is diligently working at the global, regional, and country levels to foster breakthroughs that provide countries with the fiscal space and growth pathways needed to make significant progress on the SDGs. The steadfast support of partners like Luxembourg is appreciated and crucial for making this vital work possible.

UNDP looks forward to a continued strong partnership with Luxembourg to tackle multidimensional poverty, promote gender equality, build resilience to crises and climate change, and advance the SDGs.
