Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) has launched internationally-renowned artist Bruce Munro's new exhibition Time and Place ahead of the eagerly anticipated opening of the artist's Trail of Lights on Lock Island next month.

Munro is best known for his immersive large-scale light-based installations, inspired largely by his interest in the shared human experience, the latest of which will be Trail of Lights, which is set to open in April.

Time and Place serves as the Sunraysia region's first chance to experience in-person the renowned artist's unique ability to connect people to landscapes through art.

Mildura Mayor and Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said the works in Time and Place were developed and inspired by Munro's travels to Mildura over several years, including his more recent travels developing Trail of Lights.

"It's incredibly exciting for us to be able to feature Bruce's exhibition at MAC, which has been a long-term project that has come to fruition at the perfect time ahead of the opening of Trail of Lights," the Mayor said.

Time and Place will be exhibited at MAC until 4 May, featuring a Arist Talk by Munro himself on Saturday 22 March.

"This is a truly unique opportunity for local residents to not only immerse themselves in Munro's latest masterpiece, but meet and listen to an artist known the world over for his amazing talent and creativity," Cr Healy said.

Time and Place, is a physical visualisation of how we recall and often reinterpret memories and moments.

It is created using a process which allows the artist to explore basic building blocks that come from the origins of different experiences.

By recording and interpreting his travel log during visits to the Mildura region, he has developed a finger-print-essence of his experiences, which have evolved into a mostly open visual dialogue.

In April 2025, Bruce Munro's Trail of Lights is set to illuminate Mildura and promises to be a unique transformative experience merging art with the natural environment.

It will be followed by Munro's second stunning major installation in the Sunraysia region later this year, the Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO) near Wentworth, which will offer yet another unique experience, again merging the internationally-renowned artist's incredible vision with our region's natural landscape.

Cr Healy said Tropical North Victoria's climate made it the ideal location for Bruce Munro's two stunning light installations.

"I can't think of anywhere else in the country more suited to hosting these international-calibre installations than the Sunraysia region," the Mayor said.

"The combination of our year-round sunny climate, the unique natural beauty of both locations and our thriving local tourism industry make it the perfect location to maximise the potential of Bruce's amazing work."
