Crime Gangs Task Force are investigating after locating a machine gun at Rostrevor last year.
During the early afternoon of Wednesday 4 November 2020, Detectives from the Crime Gangs Task Force assisted by Dog Operations Unit and STAR Group officers conducted a search of parkland at Gleeson Crescent, Rostrevor.
As a result of the search officers located a backpack containing an Owen 9mm machine gun, magazines and ammunition suitable for firing by the firearm and a red plastic fuel can containing petrol.
Crime Gangs Task Force are continuing to investigate the origins and circumstances surrounding those items being left at that location.
Assistance is being sought from members of the public who may live nearby or visited the area during late October or early November 2020 and observed anything suspicious. Assistance is also sought from anyone that has information in relation to that firearm or recognises the backpack.
