Macleay Valley Way Speed Zone Change Investigation

Kempsey Shire Council

The speed zone change on Macleay Valley Way between Kempsey and Frederickton, which concerned many residents, has been highlighted by Councillors to the State Government.

Council have requested an urgent review of the Transport for NSW decision to lower the posted speed limit on the Macleay Valley Way between Kempsey and Frederickton.

The below letter has been sent to the Regional Manager of Transport for NSW:

Dear Regional Manager,

RE: SPEED ZONE REDUCTION – MACLEAY VALLEY WAY – FREDERICKTON TO KEMPSEY

Kempsey Shire Council implemented during May 2024 a speed zone authorisation for installation of

an 80kmh speed zone over an existing 100kmh speed zone on Macleay Valley Way between

Frederickton and Kempsey.

The speed zone change was reported to the May 2024 meeting of the Local Traffic Committee. The

Committee advised that the speed zone change be added into the agenda for the next meeting as an

item of its own.

The Committee advice was considered by Council at its June 2024 meeting and Council resolved to

request Transport for NSW to review the authorisation for the installation of the 80kmh speed zone.

Council now requests that Transport for NSW review the speed zone authorisation and further advise

Council.

A copy of the full Council resolution and Traffic Committee report is attached for your information.

If you have any questions in relation to this request, please do not hesitate to contact Council at

[email protected] or on 6566 3200.

Yours faithfully

Michael Jackson
