Benalla Rural City Council is thrilled to receive a further $1 million in funding towards the highly anticipated pump track project, identified in the Fawckner Drive Masterplan.

The funding comes as part of round one of the Victorian Government's Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund. It is in addition to the $300,000 budget commitment in May 2024 made by the Victorian Government and announced by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes.

This project promises numerous benefits for the Benalla community, offering a versatile recreational facility that caters to all age groups and skill levels. The pump track will not only provide a fun and engaging space for young people to stay active, but it will also serve as a hub for community interaction and outdoor activity.

The inclusion of pathways, bike racks, shade structures, seating, and landscaping ensures a comprehensive and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.

Mayor Cr Danny Claridge, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasising its positive impact on the community.

"This development is fantastic news for our community. The pump track will provide a much-needed recreational facility that caters to a wide range of age groups and skill levels." he said.

"The Pump Track project is expected to foster a sense of community spirit and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among residents. By providing a safe and well-designed space for cycling and other activities, the project aims to encourage outdoor recreation and social interaction, enhancing the overall well-being of the community."

The next steps involve appointing a specialist company to consult with the community, ensuring the design and construction of the pump track align with the ideas in the Fawckner Drive Masterplan Report. This collaborative approach aims to create a space that truly reflects the community's vision and needs.

"The input of our community, and especially our young people is invaluable, and we want to ensure the final design meets their expectations and needs. The project is expected to commence in 2025.

"This funding boost is a game-changer for Benalla. We are grateful for the support from the Victorian Government. Together, we are making strides towards a brighter, more vibrant future for our community," Cr Claridge said.

Council has allocated additional funds in the 2024/25 budget, demonstrating a strong collective effort to bring this exciting venture to fruition.
