- Major Government Regional Housing boost in the Pilbara with 30 new dwellings to be leased
- GROH properties provide housing to critical Government workers
The Cook Government has secured 30 units in a South Hedland development - to be leased - in a boost to Government Regional Officers Housing (GROH) in the Pilbara.
The 30 units will be leased in the proposed 96-unit 'Azzura Square' development under a long-term lease back arrangement with Azzura Lifestyle Living.
Long term lease back arrangements enable the Government to secure new housing supply without capital impacts, while leveraging off the land holdings and capacity of local government authorities and developers.
The units will be provided to Government agencies to be rented out to teachers, police staff, health workers, and other services under the GROH program.
Comments attributed to Housing Minister John Carey:
"Ensuring regional communities have access to critical State Government workers, such as teachers and police officers, is essential for achieving strong communities.
"We're investing more than $180 million in funding for the GROH Program, and we're using a number of levers to deliver GROH where it is needed, including through spot purchases, modular builds, leasing opportunities, and partnerships with local governments and developers.
"The Cook Government is also assisting regional local governments boost housing supply through our $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund. This funding is helping ensure land is development ready by subsidising the cost of connecting critical infrastructure like power, water, and sewerage."
Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"I'm proud the Cook Government continues to invest in GROH to ensure our State Government workers, including teachers and police officers, have access to housing where they are delivering critical services across regional Western Australia - particularly here in the Pilbara.
"The Pilbara is thriving, and these 30 units will be a welcome addition to not only the Government workers who will be housed here, but also to the local community as it continues its growth as a great place to live, work and play."
