- Cook Labor Government backing three clean energy industries projects with $34 million investment
- Projects supported through Investment Attraction Fund to create jobs and diversify the economy
- Cook Labor Government's clean energy plan setting up WA's economy for the future
Three major job-creating regional projects will receive a multimillion-dollar funding boost as part of the Cook Labor Government clean energy plan to diversify the economy and set Western Australia up for the future.
The Cook Labor Government has allocated $34 million through its Investment Attraction Fund to three clean energy projects that will drive new job opportunities across WA.
POSCO Co Ltd and Port Hedland Iron Pty Ltd have been awarded $15 million for their Port Hedland Iron Project, which aims to decarbonise the steel manufacturing supply chain with production of low carbon hot briquetted iron for export to the Asian market.
Pilbara Minerals Limited has been allocated $15 million for its demonstration-scale plant that incorporates an industrial-scale electric spodumene calciner, which converts critical mineral concentrates into high-value battery precursors.
International Graphite Ltd has been awarded $4 million to fast-track the Springdale Graphite Resource for its Collie downstream processing facilities and to develop the next stages of technology and processes required to produce critical battery materials.
The funding is part of the Cook Labor Government's Investment Attraction Fund (IAF) New Energies Industries Funding Stream, which also included $26 million announced in November for two carbon capture and storage projects.
All funding allocations are subject to a Financial Assistance Agreement with the State. For more information on the IAF, visit www.investandtrade.wa.gov.au/opportunities/investment-attraction-fund .
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"WA is on track to become a global clean energy powerhouse, to keep our economy for the long term and create the jobs of the future in our State.
"These projects are at the cutting edge of the global energy transition - whether it's reducing emissions from steel or producing the batteries the world needs for a clean energy future.
"Only my WA Labor Government has the plan and the experience to keep WA's economy strong and create local jobs for our future."
