Residents in the Serpentine-Jarrahdale area are set to benefit from a major McGowan Government investment in local health services, with $36.3 million in the 2023-24 State Budget for an integrated health hub to service the growing community of more than 36,000 residents.
Once complete, the multi-million dollar Byford Health Hub will provide comprehensive health and social care services, tailored to the needs of the local community.
It will provide a single-entry point for families and individuals in the Serpentine-Jarrahdale region to access a range of primary care, community and specialist other health services in one place.
The new hub will also provide innovative, flexible and digitally enabled service delivery.
To be built in the heart of the Byford town centre, the hub will have 3,000 square metres of floor space over two storeys.
It will be purpose-built and designed for multi-disciplinary and flexible uses, including key health and support services required by the community, as identified through a health and social needs assessment.
The Byford Health Hub approach aligns with the intent of the Sustainable Health Review to shift healthcare from acute services to prevention and provide access to services closer to people's homes.
The East Metropolitan Health Service is coordinating planning, design, development, and delivery of the project with the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale and other stakeholders.
Funding of $5.9 million was invested in the 2022-23 Budget to begin site development, forward works and finalise the business case. Forward works site investigations are anticipated to begin in the second half of the year.
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"This new facility is about providing healthcare differently, focusing on building healthy communities and preventing serious illness and disease.
"It will give local people a convenient place to go for care, where they can access a range of professionals in one place.
"As this is a locally driven service for local people, the community and clinicians will continue to be consulted as the project develops."
As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:
"The new funding in the upcoming State Budget is a huge investment in the health of our local community, with the new Byford Health Hub set to conveniently deliver a range of important services under the same roof.
"This facility is set to meet the growing demand of this community into the future, and I look forward to the ongoing works to make the project a reality."
