Major Watermains Renewal Contract Awarded: Bega Valley

The renewal and upgrade will improve the reliability of the local water supply.

20 February 2025

Bega Valley Shire Council has awarded a two-year contract to Blackas Pipelines and Excavations Pty Ltd for the renewal and upgrade of ageing watermains.

The project will improve the reliability of the local water supply, replacing mains installed before 1960 in the Bega area and upgrading problematic sections across the shire.

Residents and businesses in Bega should expect the occasional water service interruption over the next two years as the works take place.

Council will work closely with the contractor to minimise disruptions, ensuring impacted customers are notified in advance.

"Old watermains increase the risk of breaks and unplanned outages, which can be costly and disruptive," Project Manager, Zac Robin said.

"This project allows us to address the issue proactively, reducing emergency repairs and improving long-term water supply reliability."

Approximately four kilometres of ageing watermains will be replaced in Bega, with additional works planned for Eden and Merimbula. The project will also align with scheduled roadworks to minimise repeated disruptions.

Council appreciates everyone's patience while these essential upgrades take place.

The project will be funded under Council's capital works program.
