Make History - Help Name West Gate Tunnel

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is calling on Victorians to help name the West Gate Tunnel Project's twin tunnels that will soon change the way people travel across Melbourne's west.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams today announced Victorians are being asked to submit names for the twin tunnels that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge and remove 9,000 trucks off local roads.

Possible names could recognise the west's local legends, landmarks, history, or cultural heritage.

All submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee and the final names will be revealed later this year before motorists drive through the tunnels.

Every Victorians who submits a valid entry will go into the draw to win a $500 Shell Coles Express voucher - and the winners will also have the opportunity to donate $2,500 towards a community organisation or charity.

Submissions are open until Monday, 31 March. To learn more about how you can name the West Gate Tunnel Project's twin tunnels, visit westgatetunnelproject.vic.gov.au/nameyourtunnels.

The West Gate Tunnel Project will transform travel in Melbourne's west - providing a much-needed second river crossing, cutting congestion and taking 9,000 trucks a day off local roads.

It will also create 14 kilometres of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths, and close to nine hectares of new parks and wetlands.

As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams

"This is a great opportunity for people to make their mark on this city-shaping project, which will change the way people move for decades to come."

"The West Gate Tunnel Project will deliver better connections between Melbourne's west and the city, taking 9,000 trucks off local roads."

As stated by Member for Footscray Katie Hall

"We want all Victorians to have their say on what to name the new West Gate Tunnels which will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge."
