"2024 has been a huge year of building, renewing and upgrading playgrounds and we have more in store," City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said.
"Providing opportunities to play for children of all ages and abilities is so important for physical and social development. Spending time in these spaces is how our residents, both young and old, develop a connection to our communities and neighbourhoods," he said.
Current and upcoming playground upgrades include:
Brett Park Adventure Playscape, Drummoyne
The $650,000 play space in Brett Park, Drummoyne is currently under construction. Jointly funded by Council and the NSW Department of Planning and Environment's Places to Play Program, the project is set to open this winter.
The space will feature a natural play environment that consists of tree logs, natural timber, rope elements, boulders and plants. The playground includes new inclusive play items such as a swing, water pump, sand digger, and sensory play elements. Visit bit.ly/brettparkplayscape to find out more.
Charles Heath Reserve Community and Play Space, Five Dock
Work is also progressing on our $4.8 million community and play space at Charles Heath Reserve in Five Dock. Set to open in June, the playground will feature two giant play towers positioned high among the treetops. The NSW Government has provided $4.3 million for this upgrade. Majors Bay Reserve, Concord
A new playground is also in the works as part of the $4.75 million Majors Bay Reserve Recreation Precinct upgrade in Concord. Funded by the NSW Government, the playground will feature towers with slides, flying foxes and swings, as well as picnic shelters and seating areas for people to sit and relax. McIlwaine Park, Rhodes
Following a major foreshore upgrade last year which saw McIlwaine Park in Rhodes transformed with a new beach area, sandstone seawall, rockpools and picnic areas, the popular park is now set for a playground upgrade. The works will improve the existing playground, creating an inclusive space for children of all ages and abilities to play. These works are expected to be complete by June 2024.
