Man Armed With Knives In West Leederville

About 6.15pm on 1 October 2024, police were called to West Leederville in relation to a man creating a disturbance.

It will be alleged the man threatened motorists in Furniss Lane and threw various items at their vehicles.

He then moved onto Cambridge Street where he allegedly threw a brick at a passing vehicle, smashing the windscreen and causing the driver to stop on Kimberley Street. The man threatened the driver, attempting to get him to leave the car. The driver refused, but sustained a minor cut to his hand.

The man continued on foot and allegedly threatened two residents walking on Kimberley Street, with a knife and a wooden beam, demanding their keys. The victims were able to run away and the man then moved to the carport area of a residence on Woolwich Street, armed with two knives.

To ensure public safety, officers cordoned off the area and requested a negotiator to attend to speak with the man.

About 8.50pm, a man in his 30s was apprehended and taken into custody. He was conveyed to hospital for assessment.

A 39-year-old man from Karratha has been charged with:

• 1 x Stealing;

• 1 x Going Armed to Cause Fear;

• 1 x Criminal Damage;

• 1 x Aggravated Armed Assault with Intent to Rob; and

• 2 x Armed Assault with Intent to Rob.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 2 October 2024.
