Man Arrested After Chase, Police Cars Damaged in Prospect

About 12.20am on Saturday 16 November 2024, police attended Toongabbie Road, Girraween, following reports a person was attempting to steal a truck.

On arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Highway Patrol attempted to speak with a man; however, he drove from the scene, crashing into a parked prime mover.

Police indicated for the driver to stop; however, when he failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The driver drove along Toongabbie Road, towards Magowar Road, before continuing along Gilba Road and crashing into a fence on Oramzi Road.

The pursuit continued through several streets before the truck crashed into a parked Toyota Camry on Normac Road.

The truck continued onto the Great Western Highway and along Blacktown Road towards the intersection of Cornelia Road and Ellam Drive, Toongabbie, before road spikes were successfully deployed at the intersection of Aldgate Street and again near Metella Road.

A roadblock was established at the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Tarlington Place, Prospect, where the truck collided with a number of police vehicles, before he was stopped and arrested.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck – a 45-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment, where he remains.

Five police cars were damaged, and an Inspector was assessed by NSW Ambulance Paramedics when the airbags in his vehicle were deployed when his vehicle hit a power pole.

There were no other reports of injuries to police or other road users.

Inquiries into the pursuit and crash continue.
