A man is in custody following a police pursuit which commenced at Ceduna this morning and ended at Warnertown in the state’s mid-north, according to SA Police.
About 9.10am on Thursday 26 July, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore sedan on the Eyre Highway near Ceduna. The driver refused to stop and police pursued the vehicle as it travelled east along the highway before it was terminated for safety reasons.
Patrols later spotted the car on the Eyre Highway near Iron Knob where attempts were made to spike the cars tyres however this was unsuccessful and the car continued on towards Port Augusta.
The police helicopter PolAir took over observations of the car and tracked it as it headed south on the Augusta Highway towards Port Pirie.
As the car travelled on Milcowie Road at Warnertown about 1.25pm, it lost two tyres and pulled off to the side of the road. The driver ran from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended by police without further incident.
A 31-year-old man from Victoria is currently being interviewed by police at Port Pirie and is expected to be charged with a number of traffic offences. He will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrate Court tomorrow.
