Man arrested after woman stabbed at Gilberton, SA

A man has been arrested and a woman is in a serious condition in hospital, after she was stabbed last night at Gilberton, according to SA Police.

Just before midnight, police and ambulance crews were called to a group of units at James Street at Gilberton following a disturbance between several people.

On police arrival, they found a woman unconscious in the bathroom, bleeding heavily from a serious stab wound to the upper left leg.

Ambulance officers treated the 38-year-old woman at the scene for some time, before she was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 38-year-old man at the scene was also treated for head injuries, after he was also allegedly punched several times by the same suspect.

After speaking with witnesses, a 41-year-old man of no fixed place, who was found at the scene and known to the injured woman and man, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault cause serious harm and aggravated cause harm.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in court later today.
