A man has been arrested following a number of police pursuits along the state’s north coast, NSW Police say.
Over the weekend of 6-7 October 2018, NSW Police were notified of several fail to pay incidents at patrol stations located on the M1 Motorway between Bundaberg, Queensland and Nambucca Heads, New South Wales.
Following investigations, Police attempted to stop a silver Ford Falcon sedan at Valla, just outside Nambucca Heads, however, the vehicle failed to stop.
The subsequent police pursuit was terminated due to the sedan travelling at high speeds.
Further attempts to stop the vehicle on the M3 at Nambucca Heads, Johns River and Nerong all resulted in the driver again fleeing Police travelling well in excess of the speed limit.
Each time the pursuits were terminated for public safety.
At 11:30am yesterday (Sunday 8 October 2018) Police co-ordinated a traffic stop on the Hexham Bridge, just north of Newcastle, in an attempt to safely intercept the vehicle.
Once the vehicle had stopped, officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attempted to speak with the driver, however, he refused to cooperate.
Officers entered the vehicle by force and the driver, a 30-year-old Bundaberg man, was arrested.
The man and a 15-year-old female passenger were taken to Raymond Terrace Police station where he was charged with a number of pursuit related offences, stealing and resist arrest.
He will appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court today (Monday 8 October 2018).
The female passenger was released without charge.
