Man Arrested for Attempted Arson at Granville Car Dealership

Police have arrested a man after an incident at a car dealership in Sydney's South West.

About 10am today (Tuesday 23 July 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a man causing a disturbance at a car dealership on Church Street, Granville.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and arrested a 69-year-old man at the scene.

It will be alleged the man threatened staff with a hammer and poured petrol in the showroom floor before igniting it. The fire was extinguished by staff members.

A woman was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance and paramedics.

The man has been taken to Merrylands Police Station and he is assisting with inquiries.
