Whitehorse Crime Investigation Unit detectives, with the assistance of CIRT, have arrested a man after a police officer was struck in Nunawading this morning.
The officer was struck by a stolen Honda Civic at the intersection of Burwood Highway and Springvale Road about 2.40pm.
It's understood the officer was attempting to set up a tyre deflation device to stop the stolen vehicle.
The 27-year-old police officer was taken to hospital with serious upper body injuries, where he remains.
A 20-year-old Ringwood East man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was arrested in Ringwood at 4pm today.
He is currently in custody and the investigation remains ongoing.
A 32-year-old Preston man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and theft of petrol.
He was bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 6 November.
