Man Charged, $944k Illegal Tobacco Seized in Failford

A man will face court after a large amount of illegal tobacco were seized in the state's north.

About 3.20pm yesterday (Friday 4 April 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling on Pacific Highway, Failford, approximately 19km north of Forster, when they stopped a van being driven in a dangerous manner.

The driver – a 61-year-old man – was subject to a roadside breath test, returned with a negative result.

The vehicle was searched and police seized approximately 9,760 illegal e-cigarette devices and more than 401,800 cigarettes after a search in the vehicle.

Estimated street value of the seizure is about $944,300.

The man was taken to Forster Police Station where he was charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000 and deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100000 and less than $5000.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 5 April 2025).
