A man will face court today charged after a home was allegedly deliberately lit in the state's Central West last week.
About 8.30pm on Thursday (1 August 2024), emergency services were called to Gumble Street, Gilgandra, following reports a house was alight.
A witness approached the home and spoke with another man in the backyard – who was armed with a gold club and knife – before the man in the backyard jumped the fence and began to chase the witness to his home before fleeing on foot.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended the home and extinguished the blaze.
Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No one was home at the time.
Shortly after police were patrolling the area and located a 38-year-old man at the intersection of Wrigley and Strickland Street, Gilgandra.
The man was arrested and taken to Gilgandra Police Station.
He was charged with damage property by fire/exp over $15000 (DV), armed with intent commit indictable offence, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic), and breach of bail.
The man was refused bail on Friday (2 August 2024), and appeared at Dubbo Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court today (Monday 5 August 2024).
