Man Charged After Assaulting Officer in Broadmeadows

Police have charged a man after a police officer was allegedly assaulted in Broadmeadows yesterday.

Officer responded to multiple reports of criminal damage at a licensed premises on Matthews Avenue in Airport West about 10am.

It is alleged a man attended the venue and punched multiple gaming machines before fleeing.

The man allegedly attended another licensed premises on Mickleham Road in Gladstone Park, where he allegedly damaged a gaming screen, before fleeing on foot about 10.40am.

It is alleged that the same man was seen outside the Broadmeadows Police Station, smashing the windscreen of a marked police vehicle about 11.45am.

The man allegedly fled on foot before officers arrested him nearby a short time later.

It is alleged that the man punched an officer in the face during the arrest.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

A 37-year-old Gladstone Park man was charged with assault related offences.

He was remanded to appear before Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court today.
