A man will face court today, charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer following a pursuit on the South Coast yesterday.
About 10.30pm (Monday 20 January 2025), police were conducting random breath tests on the Princes Highway, Narooma when they pulled over a Holden commodore.
When officers approached the car, the driver allegedly drove off, southbound on the Princes Highway.
Officers initiated a pursuit and a short time later the car stopped on Riverside Drive, Narooma.
A 28-year-old male passenger and 7-year-old female passengers were in the vehicle.
The 50-year-old male driver was arrested.
During the arrest, the man allegedly resisted, headbutting the senior constable, causing injuries to his face and hands.
The man was taken to Batemans Bay police station and subjected to a breath test, allegedly returning a positive reading of 0.032.
He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and special category driver drive with special range PCA
He was refused bail to appear in Bega Local Court today (Tuesday 21 January 2025).
The senior constable was taken to Moruya hospital and treated for a possible fractured hand and nose.
