Man Charged After Caulfield Grandstand Fire

Detectives from Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit have charged a man following a series of fires in Caulfield and Mordialloc on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old man has been charged with four counts of arson, two counts of trespass and one count each of burglary, criminal damage and theft.

The charges follow an alleged series of fires in Caulfield and Mordialloc on 7 January including one in the grandstand of Caulfield Racecourse about 6.25am, several grass fires in Mordialloc about 12.30pm and a series of small fires in Arnott Street Caulfield.

The man whose last known address was in Wangaratta was arrested by police at the Mordialloc railway station later the same day about 1.45pm.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 8 January.
