Man Charged After Counterfeit Cash Bust on South Coast

A man has been charged after counterfeit cash was seized on the South Coast.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District were alerted after counterfeit $50 dollar notes were handed to businesses at Merimbula and Eden on Wednesday 1 January 2025.

Following inquiries, about 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 January 2025), a 27-year-old man was arrested in Merimbula Drive, Merimbula.

The man was searched, where police allegedly located and seized a number of small re-sealable bags allegedly containing drugs.

Officers searched the car and allegedly seized drugs and a knuckle duster.

He was taken to Merimbula Police Station and charged with two counts of possess false document to obtain financial advantage etc, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Bega Local Court on Tuesday 11 February 2025.

Police will allege in court counterfeit $50 and $100 notes were used at businesses in Eden, Pambula and Merimbula.
