A man has been charged following an investigation into a multi vehicle crash in Sydney's southwest yesterday.
About 10.40am yesterday (Wednesday 13 November 2024), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a Renault SUV, along Waminda Avenue, Campbelltown.
When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The original pursuit was terminated a short time later along Moore Oxley Bypass and a police operation involving PolAir continued to monitor the vehicle.
About 11.15am, the Renault SUV ignored a red light at the intersection of Camden Valley Way and Denham Court Road, Denham Court and impacted with a black utility before hitting a traffic light pole.
The 33-year-old male driver was ejected from the vehicle and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition while under police guard.
The 49-year-old male driver of the utility suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.
It will be alleged that the Renault SUV was involved in the theft of a Mercedes coupe parked in Kingsford Smith Avenue, Middleton Grange about 8.30am yesterday, during which a 39-year-old woman was injured and taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.
The Mercedes was located unattended along Richmond Crescent, Campbelltown, by officers at 9.45am. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
An independent critical incident investigation has been launched into the operation and is being led by officers from the Cumberland Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, police charged the 33-year-old man today (Thursday 14 November 2024), with aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, police pursuit not stop drive dangerously and drive furiously in motor vehicle cause bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear via audio visual link before Liverpool Local Court today where he was further refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday 9 January 2024.
The incident is also subjected to an independent review from the Professional Standards Command and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
