A man has been charged following a police operation in Sydney's Eastern Beaches yesterday.
About 10.40am (Wednesday 23 October 2024), emergency services were called to a unit block on Dudley Street, Randwick, after reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Command were told a 31-year-old man inside a unit was allegedly armed.
A police operation commenced when the man refused to come out of the unit, with the assistance of specialist police including Police Negotiators and Tactical Operations Regional Support.
Just after 8.20pm, police gained access to the unit and the man was arrested.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment.
A crime scene warrant was executed inside the unit, during which, officers located and seized two allegedly unauthorised firearms and a ballistic vest.
Upon release from hospital, the man was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with possess unauthorised pistol, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely-pistol, not keep firearm safely- prohibited firearm and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
He was refused bail to appear before Waverley local Court today (Wednesday 23 October 2024).
