Man Charged After Fatal Crash in Sydney's South West

A man has been charged following a fatal single-vehicle crash in Sydney's south west this morning.

Just before 12.30am (Monday 7 October 2024), emergency services were called to Cornelia Street, Wiley Park, after reports a car had crashed into a house.

For reasons still under investigation, it is believed a Toyota Corolla allegedly left the roadway and went through a fence, before crashing into the front of the house.

A man – who was outside the house at the time – was allegedly struck by the car.

Despite the efforts of first responders, he could not be revived and died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified; however, he is believed to be aged in his 20s.

A crime scene was established, which will be examined by specialist police, and officers from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

The driver – a 24-year-old man – was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
