A man has been charged and firearms seized as part of an investigation into drug supply in Sydney’s south-west, NSW Police say.
Investigators from the State Crime Command’s Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) established Strike Force Benwerrin to investigate the supply of methlyamphetamine and cannabis in south-west Sydney.
Following extensive investigations, strike force officers executed a search warrant at a home at Haberfield, about 7.45am last Friday (16 September 2016)
Police located a hydroponic cannabis set-up in the garage, which was rendered safe and dismantled.
Officers also located a small Beretta-style handgun, a pump-action shotgun, a single-barrel rifle, ammunition, and a crossbow, as well as three registered rifles, which were allegedly not safely stored.
All items were seized, as well as cannabis leaf, NSW registration plates, and mobile phones.
About 11am yesterday, a 48-year-old Haberfield man was arrested at Campsie Police Station.
He was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess unauthorised pistol, six counts of not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, goods suspected stolen in premises, cultivate prohibited plant, and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and appeared at Burwood Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court tomorrow.
Investigations are continuing.
