Man Charged After Fleeing State Over Fatal Crash

A man who allegedly fled the state over a fatal in Great Western has been extradited, following a joint operation between Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and Queensland Police.

The 25-year-old man was on bail in relation to one count of dangerous driving causing death.

The charge relates to a collision in 2022 on the Western Freeway which claimed the life of a 53-year-old Horsham woman.

A warrant was issued for the 25-year-old Horsham man when he failed to appear at court on Thursday.

Fugitive Taskforce investigators wasted no time in tracking the man down, identifying that he had possibly fled to Queensland.

Within hours, Tactical Crime Squad officers and Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch detectives attended an address in Macgregor and arrested the man at the scene.

He faced court in Brisbane where an extradition order was granted.

The 25-year-old will be brought back to Victoria today and face Melbourne County Court on 4 December.
