Police have charged a man after he allegedly fled from police in a stolen car on the state's Mid North Coast yesterday.
About 1.30pm yesterday (Saturday 8 February 2025), police were patrolling the M1 Motorway, Telegraph Point, when they attempted to stop a Toyota SUV.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District initiated a pursuit.
Initial checks indicated the SUV had allegedly been stolen from a home in South West Rocks on Tuesday 4 February 2025.
When the pursuit reached South Kempsey, police successfully deployed road spikes on Macleay Valley Way, causing the vehicle to be abandoned on Gladstone Street.
Following inquiries, police arrested an 18-year-old man at Kempsey Police Station about 8pm the same day.
He was charged with police pursuit not stop drive at speed and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court on Thursday 20 February 2025.
