A man will face court today following a pursuit throughout Sydney's west yesterday.
About 10.30am (Friday 19 July 204), police received multiple reports of a vehicle allegedly driving in a dangerous manner in the Blackheath area.
Officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Greater Western Sydney Sector located the vehicle travelling east along the Great Western Highway and attempted to stop it from allegedly driving dangerously.
When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated in Linden.
With the assistance of PolAir, the vehicle was located and stopped in Olive Street, Penrith about XX.
The vehicle allegedly rammed a police vehicle before the driver refused to exit the vehicle.
With the assistance of specialist police attached to the Public Order Riot Squad, officers gained access to the vehicle and the driver, a 26-year-old man, who allegedly resisted, was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.
He was charged with the following offences:
- police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously,
- drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
- drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (2nd offence),
- assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm,
- unlawfully possess number plates (two counts),
- use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc,
- hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
- use Class A vehicle number plate obscured/defaced.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 20 July 2024).
