A 38-year-old Riverside man has been charged with multiple burglaries after police recovered a significant quantity of power tools and equipment believed to have been stolen from a number of vehicles across Launceston.
The majority of tools - estimated to be valued at about $20,000 – were stolen from trade vehicles parked in public spaces, and police are reminding owners to ensure their vehicles and valuables are secure at all times.
The Riverside man has been detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
While some property has been returned, a large quantity is not identifiable.
Anyone who has had tools or equipment stolen recently should report it to police.
To deter thieves and help police return property, owners should mark power tools with identifying features.
Anyone with information in relation to the burglaries, or who has been offered cheap tools, is also urged to contact Launceston CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at crimestopperstas.com.au or 1800 333 000.
