Man Charged After Police Remembrance Wall Vandalized

A man has been charged after a police monument was allegedly damaged in Sydney's Domain.

About 3.15am on Saturday 25 January 2025, the NSW Police Wall of Remembrance – dedicated to the memory of police officers killed in the line of duty – was allegedly significantly damaged by vandalism.

About 12pm yesterday (Sunday 26 January 2025), officers deployed as part of Australia Day celebrations, saw the damage and commenced an investigation.

A crime scene was established, which was forensically examined by specialist police.

Following investigations, about 2.25pm today (Monday 27 January 2025) a 43-year-old man was arrested at Glebe Light Rail station and taken to Day Street Police Station.

He was charged with destroy or damage property and commit offensive etc act in, on war memorial/interment site.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 28 January 2025).

Police are working with Sydney City Council to assist with remedial works to repair the damage.
