Man Charged After Ramming Police Car in Lightning Ridge Chase

A man will face court charged following an alleged pursuit where a police car was rammed in the state's north-west at the weekend.

About 1.25pm on Friday (13 September 2024), police were patrolling the Bill O'Brien Way, Lightning Ridge, when they attempted to stop a grey Toyota Kluger.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. A short time later the Kluger stopped on a dirt track and reversed into the police vehicle.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later police located the Kluger abandoned on Fred Reece Way, where it was seized for forensic examination.

About 2.30pm the same say, police attended a home on Fantasia Street, Lightning Ridge, and arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Lightning Ridge Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, and not give particulars to other driver.

The man was given conditional bail to appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court on Wednesday 30 October 2024.
