A man has been charged with multiple firearms offences after firearms and items to make explosives were found in the Illawarra.
About 9.15am Thursday 6 February 2025, officers attached to the Wollongong Police District served a Firearms Prohibition Order compliance check at a home in Outlook Drive, Figtree.
Three registered firearms, an unregistered firearm, ammunition and firearm accessories, five slingshots, perimeter alarms, more than 20 firearm parts, powder used to make explosives, fuses, four detonators with a remote, two flick knives, a gel blaster, three extendable batons, and an electronic stun device were seized.
A firearms licence was also seized.
Following inquiries, about 3.50pm yesterday (Friday 7 February 2025), police arrested a 55-year-old man at Wollongong Police Station.
He was charged with six counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of acquire firearm part without authority to do so, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, and holder of category A or B licence not have approved storage.
The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 8 February 2025).
