Man Charged After Werribee Pursuit

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after an extended follow in Werribee on Sunday.

It is alleged the driver was travelling in a stolen Kia sedan, reaching speeds of up to 200km/h on the Princes Freeway about 9.45pm.

With the assistance of the Air Wing and Brimbank Highway Patrol, the driver was then allegedly seen driving erratically before crashing into a tree at the corner of Daglish Way and Attadale Avenue in Werribee.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle dumped the car before fleeing the scene on foot.

He was arrested a short time later inside a property on Colombinia Avenue.

A second man was also arrested at the scene and charged on unrelated matters.

The 19-year-old Werribee man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, fail to stop on police direction, reckless conduct endangering life, unlicensed driving, drive at speed dangerous, fraudulently use vehicle registration plate.

He has been remanded to appear at Sunshine Magistrates' Court on 9 December.
