A man has been charged following investigations into a serious motor vehicle crash in Northern NSW last year where two people died, NSW Police say.
About 9pm on Tuesday 27 September 2016, a red Nissan 300ZX with five occupants was travelling on Mount Lindesay Road, Woodenbong, about 100km northwest of Lismore, when it left the roadway and crashed into an embankment.
The driver, a 20-year-old man, and two of the passengers – a 17-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy – were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital.
The 20-year-old man was later transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The two other passengers, a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were airlifted to hospitals in Brisbane but they died on Friday 30 September 2016.
Following extended inquiries by the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit, officers today charged a 20-year-old man with:
- Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous (x2);
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous;
- Negligent driving occasioning death;
- Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm;
- Use unregistered vehicle on road;
- Not comply with P1/P2 high performance vehicle restriction;
- P1/P2 driver allow passengers (over 16) not wear seatbelts; and
- P1/P2 driver occupy seat where seatbelt not fitted.
He was also issued with a notice of licence suspension and is due to appear before Kyogle Local Court on Thursday 16 February 2017.
