Man Charged for Arson at Bonnett Hill

A 32-year-old man has been charged after police and emergency services responded to a fire at Alum Cliffs, near Harpers Road, Bonnett Hill about 4.00pm yesterday afternoon.

On arrival it was observed a section of vegetation was well alight.

The fire was attended by several Tasmania Fire Service units and due to the dry vegetation and wind direction took about two hours to bring under control.

Senior Constable Brouwer said, "deliberately setting fires is a reckless and dangerous act that puts lives at risk and causes considerable damage to property. It also places an unnecessary strain on our emergency services."

"People who deliberately light fires will be held accountable for their actions," he said.

The man was charged with unlawfully setting fire to vegetation and was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
